Mint Mobile now offers $5 Starter Kit for new customers

Mint Mobile is a mobile virtual network operator, meaning it doesn't have its own infrastructure, but pays one of the major carriers to use its network. Now Mint is offering a "$5 Starter kit" that will allow users, looking for alternatives, to see if they like what the operator is offering. Of course, you'll need an unlocked phone to use their services. The package is very barebones, but that's to be expected at that price, it includes:

The SIM card will be mailed to you once you sign up and can be used for up to a week, although 100 MB of data wouldn't last an hour for some users. If you're worried that's a waste of $5, Mint Mobile is offering a 100% money back guarantee. Even if you sign up for one of their plans after the trial, they will still give you back the $5.

Their regular three-month plans start at $15 per month for 2GB of data and reach $25 for 10 GB. All plans include unlimited text and talk.

MVNOs are a good option for people that aren't heavy users or end up using an older device, for example seniors or kids. It's easier to activate and deactivate the service, depending on your needs, and you don't have to spend time convincing carrier employees you don't need the latest smartphone, TV package or some other "awesome" deal.
