Archos unveils Neon - a new line of affordable low-end tablets

Archos, a French electronics manufacturer, announced that it will release a new lineup of affordable tablets. Dubbed Neon, the line will consist of three low-end Android slates – the 90 Neon, the 97 Neon, and the 101 Neon.

The three devices are quite similar hardware-wise and the most significant difference between them is the size of their displays. The Archos 90 Neon has the smallest one among the trio – a 9-inch screen, which comes with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, resulting in the totally disappointing pixel density of 103 ppi. The 101 Neon comes with a 10.1-inch display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, which means that it has the low pixel density of 117 ppi. The 97 Neon boasts a 9.7-inch screen with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. Its has the highest pixel density among the three Archos tablets – 131 ppi.

Hardware-wise, the three upcoming tablets of Archos are quite similar. All of them come with MediaTek Cortex A9 processors on board. However, the ones in the 90 Neon and in the 101 Neon are clocked at 1.4GHz, while the CPU of the 97 Neon runs at 1.6GHz. All of Archos's slates sport 1GB of RAM, 8 gigabytes of internal storage, and microSD card slots. The 97 Neon is the only tablet of the lineup that sports a front and a rear camera – the 90 Neon and the 101 Neon only have front-facing ones.The three tablets of the upcoming Neon lineup will be powered by Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and will come with the full set of Google's apps and services preinstalled.

Pricing and release dates for the Neon tablets are yet to be announced.
