"When will my phone get Android P?"

That is probably the number one question that mobile tech enthusiasts are asking themselves right now and Google has now released an official timeline for the rollout of Android P.

And no, don't expect it much sooner than other versions, but this time, the wait should definitely be worth it with exciting new features like the brand new gesture-based navigation, as well as little everyday improvements like the new adaptive brightness, AI-optimized battery life and so on.

So here is what we know about the Android P release date: first, we have the P Developer Preview that runs from 7 March 2018 until the final Android P public release to AOSP and OEMs, planned for Q3 2018.

Here are the different internal stages of the roll-out for Google:

Of course, a release to OEMs in Q3 means that it will take more time for OEMs to actually implement all the changes in their devices.

Good news is that if you own a Google Pixel phone, you can load up the betas and start using them right away, and also be first in line for the final release once its available.

But this time around it's not just the Pixel who will get the beta. Seven new phone makers will participate: Nokia, Vivo, OnePlus, Oppo, Xiaomi, Sony, and Essential will also get the beta.

Here are the phones that can get the Android P beta:

  • Sony Xperia XZ2
  • Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S
  • Nokia 7 Plus
  • Oppo R15 Pro
  • Vivo X21
  • OnePlus 6
  • Essential PH‑1
  • Android P beta coming to phones from these companies today
